Section D
1.Dictation
1)The Chinese are diligent, creative, intelligent, polite, hospitable, trustworthy, modest and shy. They are business-minded and very successful businessmen as we can see in many foreign countries. They sometimes lack independent thinking and like to follow the general trend. They are traditional;and
dwell too much on their past glory.
2)The Chinese are kind, serious, sincere, persistent, patriotic, welhlisciplined. Some Chinese are lazy, obedient and conservative in many ways. They are meeting-goers and idle-talk-lovers.They value face value a lot and sometimes don't seek the truth. They lack cooperation and therefore are not as successful as they should be.
2.News Listening Practice
A gunman has killed thirty two people at a university in the United States, the worst incident of its kind in American history.Gunfire broke out first in a dormitory at Virginia Tech University. The most of the victims were killed two hours later at a studyhall. It'S thought that only one gunman was involved and he killed himself as police moved in.Asked why the campus was not closed after the first shooting, the university'S chief of police said it was initially thought the gunman had fled.President Bush has expressed shock at the murders. But he defended the right of Americans to own guns. Our correspondent Phanaey Hiney has been following events from Washing-ton.
