本書全面地論述揚子地臺區(qū)的志留系,特別是文洛克統(tǒng)、拉德洛統(tǒng)和普里多利統(tǒng)。確認(rèn)揚子地臺區(qū)的志留系四個統(tǒng)發(fā)育齊全,是我國志留系乃至東亞志留系的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)地區(qū)。建立起揚子地臺區(qū)海相紅層的系列。首次確認(rèn)蘭多弗里統(tǒng)魯?shù)るA、埃朗階和文洛克統(tǒng)海相紅層的存在。除淺水海相紅層外,還首次報導(dǎo)了深水和半深水海相紅層,并進(jìn)行了國際對比。對中國地層表(2014)揚子區(qū)志留紀(jì)“特列奇階”進(jìn)行剖析。指出其中除包括特列奇期地層外,還包括文洛克世、拉德洛世和普里多利世早期地層。更正文洛克世—拉德洛世戈斯特期海平面升降曲線不是處于陸地狀態(tài)。論述揚子地臺區(qū)志留紀(jì)整體上升的時代是在志留紀(jì)末,是由黃汲清教授于1945年首次提出的。此外,還對特列奇期末“揚子上升事件”、拉德洛世晚期“曲靖下降”、揚子地臺的古地理、曲靖海灣的海侵方向以及揚子地臺的研究史等進(jìn)行了剖析。
