《胡適英文文存》系列結(jié)集了胡適于20世紀(jì)20年代左右到60年代初之間撰寫的英文文章或英文演講, 它們大多都曾發(fā)表于頗具影響的英文刊物上, 并對當(dāng)時(shí)的中國社會產(chǎn)生過重大影響。本書選錄胡適自1912至1944年間撰寫和演講的英文文獻(xiàn), 胡適作為中國駐美國大使向美國乃至世界宣傳中國抗戰(zhàn)的性質(zhì)與國際意義, 爭取美國和國際社會對中國的同情與支持。
胡適，一八九一年--一九六二年，安徽績溪上莊村人，因提倡文學(xué)革命、思想革命而成為新文化運(yùn)動的領(lǐng)袖之一。興趣廣泛，著述宏富，在文學(xué)、哲學(xué)、史學(xué)等諸多領(lǐng)域都有開創(chuàng)性的貢獻(xiàn)：英文寫作、演講能力俱佳，致力于向西方介紹中國歷史文化，影響深遠(yuǎn)。歷任北京大學(xué)文學(xué)院院長、中國駐美國大使、北京大學(xué)校長、『中央研究院』院長等職。
周質(zhì)平，一九四七年生于上海，一九七○年畢業(yè)于臺北東“天大學(xué)中文系，一九七四年獲臺中東海大學(xué)碩士學(xué)位，一九八二年獲美國印第安納大學(xué)博士學(xué)位�，F(xiàn)任普林斯頓大學(xué)東亞系教授。
